
March Break is here! Take a look at these events and activities for families in Thunder Bay.
All week, various times and dates
The Thunder Bay Public Library has a full lineup of all kinds of free activities all week, featuring storytimes, playtimes, a Mario party, crafts, painting, a royal tea party, a gardening workshop, a glow-in-the-dark party, St. Patrick’s Day puppet show, musical concert and lots more. The Oliver Paipoonge Library has a free sticker-creating activity at the Murillo branch on Monday and Wednesday all day, while the Rosslyn branch has a free friendship bracelet activity on Tuesday and Thursday all day. Visit Indigo Thunder Bay for fun, free playtime events (Lego, Bluey and more) Monday to Friday at 11 am, or dress up in various themes to for your chance to win prizes at local independent toy store Toy Sense, Monday to Friday. At Canvas and Clay , kids can get crafty (and their grownups can join in) through a range of artistic workshops (registration and payment required), including stained glass, knitting and pottery. Our Kids Count has a number of free events such as a nature walk or an art project for families with kids under age 6, registration usually required.

Community Fun Night
MacGregor Rec Centre, 6-9 pm
Skating, sliding, a bonfire with hot chocolate and hot dogs and indoor games are all happening at MacGregor Rec Centre from 6 to 9 pm. There will be some skates and sleds available to borrow.

Friday March 7 and Saturday March 8
Rosslyn Winter Carnival
At this community carnival, all ages can try out curling on Friday night at 7:30. On Saturday, there’s the annual pancake breakfast from 8-10 am followed by kid and family events all day at the rink and library.

Powwow
Lakehead University Hanger, 12 pm
The ICTC 35th annual Powwow takes place this weekend, beginning at with the Grand Entry on at noon on both days. There will also be a traditional feast.

Story Time with TBay Drag Queens and Crafting with Queens
Waverley Library, 2:30-4pm
This free, all-ages event features readings of four picture books by local Queens and Kings, plus craft time.

Sunday March 9
Winter FunDay

Have a fun free afternoon with the City of Thunder Bay’s Winter FunDay—there’s winter science with Science North at the Current River Community Centre as well as an upcycled puzzle jewelry activity with CAHEP at the Baggage Building at Marina Park (parking is free on Sundays).

March Break Skate
Fort William Gardens, 1:30-3:30
Families with kids aged up to age 12 can lace up their skates and hit the ice at the Gardens. Join Healthy Kids Thunder Bay and the Kam River Fighting Wallleye at this free event. (Note that spots are limited to children and families residing in a Healthy Kids neighbourhood. Priority registration is given to children 5-12.)

Science North
Thunder Bay Country Market, 3:30-6:30 pm
The folks at Science North are bringing free, hands-on science fun to the farmers market. Check out a boreal forest exhibit and interactive activities, plus do some fresh and local shopping while you’re there.

Oliver Paipoonge Public Library, Murillo, 1-3 pm
At this free event, families can take part in two science programs: one called Make it Move, the other called Animal Extravaganza.

Winter FunDay, 2-4pm
At this final FunDay of the winter, you can enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day barbecue at Minnesota Park (wear your green) or a free-form crafting afternoon with CAHEP at the Baggage Building at Marina Park.
